CityCenter Danbury hosts two-day festival

CityCenter Danbury announces that the two-day “A Taste of Greater Danbury” will offer its traditionally delicious food from many of the Greater Danbury area’s finest restaurants, FREE headline entertainment(Blue Oyster Cult), and family-fun activities. Quality Arts & Craft vendors, the 2nd Annual Mayor’s Cup Car and Motorcycle Cruise, and a variety of exhibitors and non-profit organizations are some of the additions to the biggest Taste yet.
“Adding these events to “Taste” makes the two day event more festive than ever” states Mark Nolan, Chairman of the CityCenter Board of Commissioners.
Every fall since 1988, tens of thousands of people have enjoyed this perennially successful and overwhelmingly popular festival in downtown Danbury. In its 22nd year, this food extravaganza will offer tasty tidbits from several area restaurants. Enjoy foods from around the globe: Cuban pork sandwiches, kibbee, humus, tabouli, keilbasa, pierogies, empanadas, jerk chicken, curry, fajitas, gelato, Italian pastries, and baklawa, – and also traditional favorites: lobster tail, burgers, hotdogs, chicken fingers, pizza, grinders, ice cream, kettlecorn, and cookies. In addition, heart healthy foods will be provided by the Danbury Hospital Dietary Department. Prices are a good value at $5.00 or less. On both days, in addition to the diverse menu of food items, over 30 non-profit organizations will offer valuable raffles, family activities and novelty items for sale.
As part of the new ‘Kidz Kountry’ area on Saturday and Sunday, The Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut will bring bouncers for jumping, Paul Mitchell The School with their promotional tour bus doing ‘Krazy Kidz Hair’, and the Danbury Fire Department will have three vehicles for display including rides on their ladder truck. In addition, there will be clowns and “old fashion games” for kids to play like ring toss provided by the Portuguese Cultural Center. Curious Creatures will feature exotic animals for children to experience up close and personal. There will be plenty of fun for and all entertainment at Kidz Kountry will be free.

The free entertainment lineup for “A Taste of Greater Danbury” on Saturday, September 6th starts at Noon with Curtis T. opening with the Star-Spangled Banner; Curtis T. will continue to perform until 2:30PM. And the entertainment doesn’t stop there: CityCenter Players Theatre Camp will do selected pieces from their “Journey through American Music” program, followed by P.T. Waggs Vaudeville Show, the country music from Gunsmoke, and then The Dave Powers Band opening for the headlining talent of Blue Oyster Cult at 8PM. Additionally, CT Cruise News will host the 2nd Annual Mayor’s Cup Car and Motorcycle Classic from 2-8PM.
On Sunday, September 7th the Taste of Greater Danbury begins at Noon as the termination point for the Danbury News-Times 125th Anniversary parade. The music and food continues with the Whitewood followed by another Blue Oyster Cult performance performance at 2PM. The music and delicious food continues until 7PM with P.T.Waggs Vaudeville Show and the New Orleans sound of Dr. Ya Ya’s Gumbo Party. Don’t’ miss any of this fun and exciting musical talent! “A Taste of Greater Danbury” is presented by CityCenter Danbury as a part of the CityCenter Summer Series, Concerts on the Green.
