The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection is alerting consumers to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s voluntary recall of Children’s Bangles due to a lead paint hazard. Consumers should cease using this recalled product immediately.

This recalled product was manufactured in India and imported by Chandigarh Fashion, Inc., of Flushing, New York. The surface coating on the bracelets contains high levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. The children’s bangle bracelets which were sold in packets of 24, are gold with stripes of either red, maroon, black, orange or green.

The bracelets were sold at Chandigarh Fashion stores in Flushing, N.Y. and Sonia Selections stores in Chicago, Ill. from May 2007 through August 2008 for approximately $2.00. Although not sold in Connecticut stores, this recalled product may have been purchased while visiting New York or Illinois or may have been sent to Connecticut residents as a gift.

Consumer Protection Commission Jerry Farrell, Jr., strongly recommends consumers check their homes for this product and if found, immediately take the bracelets away from children and return the bracelets to the store where purchased for a full refund. Although no injuries and/or incidents have been reported, lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause serious health effects.
