The show will feature “Miss Mako” the ’64 Corvette show car, known as the feminine version of the Mako Shark. The car has been campaigning for various charities since she was built, and will be accompanied by Ken Guiles, of Final Finish in Branford, Conn. The event will include various food vendors, auto vendors and special drawings, as well as music throughout the day by The Doo-Wop DJ and Rockin’ Rosie of Middletown, Conn. The Top 50 cars will receive awards, and the Best In Show winner will win a trip to City Hall Plaza in Boston for the Super Wheels Showdown, commonly described as the Super Bowl of auto shows. Registration will take place between 8 and 10 a.m., and is $8 in advance and $10 at the event. The first 200 cars will receive dash plaques, and the door prizes are plentiful. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Hayley’s Hope and Michaela’s Miracle MS Memorial Fund, established last summer after the tragic deaths of Cheshire residents Jennifer Hawke-Petit, and her daughters Hayley and Michaela. “When I saw what happened to Dr. William Petit and his family I wanted to reach out and try to do something to help,” said Frank Bronner, who organized the event. Although Bronner has been fundraising through events involving his passion, cars, for years, this is his first time working to make a difference in the world of MS.
Multiple Sclerosis became a cause close to the Petit family after Jennifer Petit’s diagnosis. Hayley, just 9 years old at the time her mother was diagnosed, formed a Walk MS team to raise funds to help find a cure for a disease threatening to rob her mother’s independence and mobility. Over the next eight years, her team, Hayley’s Hope, raised more then $55,000 and was among the top fundraising teams many years. Hayley, who would have attended Dartmouth College last fall, prepared to hand the torch to her younger sister, Michaela, who was establishing her own team, Michaela’s Miracle.
