The Board of Directors of the CT Council on Problem Gambling is pleased to announce the appointment of Mary Drexler as the new Executive Director of the CT Council, replacing Dr. Marvin Steinberg who is retiring on January 31st after 31 years as Executive Director.

Mary is a resident of Higganum, CT. She holds a Master of Social Work degree in Administration from the University of Connecticut School of Social Work and has been in the field of health and human services for 30 years. She has an extensive background in management of nonprofits throughout her career. Mary has been the Assistant Director of the CT Council since March 2007.

Ms. Drexler states "I am excited to be taking on the leadership role as Executive Director for the CT Council. Having been mentored for the past five years by one of this country's leaders in the field of problem gambling, I am ready for the challenge. I will continue, along with the Council's dedicated staff, to ensure that the needs of problem gamblers and their families are addressed. Prevention, education, awareness, treatment, and research are even more essential now as Connecticut explores the expansion of legalized gambling in our state."

Ms. Drexler will officially take on duties as Executive Director on February 1, 2012.
