Grilled food, music and games for all ages will highlight All-American Picnic Week held at Mystic Seaport Tuesday through Sunday, July 1-6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Museum’s annual 1876 Independence Day celebration held Friday, July 4, will offer programs especially designed to honor our country’s centennial celebration.
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the week, the Museum’s Grill-on-the-Green will serve hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, chowder, lobster rolls, desserts and beverages for purchase. Beer and wine will also be available. On July 4, a special steamed lobster dinner, complete with coleslaw and corn on the cob, will also be offered for $24.
Visitors of all ages can participate in a variety of American pastimes throughout All-American Picnic Week, including friendly games of tug of war, sack races, spoon and egg races and three-legged races. The Mystic Seaport Chanteymen will provide musical entertainment, performing sea songs and chanteys on the Village Green.
On the Fourth of July, patriotic ceremonies begin with a noontime picnic followed by a children’s parade through the Museum’s village at 1 p.m. An 1876 Independence Day ceremony and a concert by the Silver Cornet Band will be performed on the Village Green. Visitors can play croquet with “people from the past,” watch a whaleboat race and churn ice cream. Children are also invited to show off their spelling skills in an old-fashioned spelling bee.
All activities are included in Mystic Seaport admission.
