Adopt-A-Dog, a non-profit rescue, shelter and adoption organization dedicated to finding permanent homes for adoptable dogs and cats, proudly announces its 21st annual Puttin’ On the Dog show and festival. The event takes place on Sunday, September 21 from 10:00 am to 5 pm at the Roger Sherman Baldwin Park in Greenwich, CT (Exit 3 off I-95). All day admission is $10 for adults; $5 for seniors and children over 5, free for children 5 or younger. For public information about Puttin’ On The Dog or to enter a dog in the show, call 914.273.1674 or 203-629-9494 or visit the web site www.adoptadog.org.
Last year more than 6,000 people attended this fun-filled event. Serving as this year’s Masters of Ceremonies will be Bill Evans of ABC7 Eyewitness News, Jeff Weber of WGCH (1490 AM), and Marylee and Storm N. Norman from WEBE 108. WGCH will broadcast live from the field. During the day, there will be a fun dog show with seventeen classes of entries and celebrity judges. Celebrity judges last year included actress Sandy Duncan and David Canary of All My Children. Show winners have included the Biggest Lap Dog, K-9 Krooners, A Pooch Who Can Smooch, and Clever K-9 Tricks, among others. A new class this year is Homely Hounds. All class entrants receive an Honorable Mention ribbon.
The public can spend the entire day with face painting, clowns, a fire truck, auction, checking out the Dog House, watching the dog show and parade, eating great food, visiting the Children’s Corner, going to the vendor booths and the adoption tents, buying t-shirts and other items, trying their luck at raffles and grab bags for all ages, and getting their dog’s photo portrait.
Most importantly to the mission of Adopt-A-Dog is that dogs and cats currently available for adoption will be on hand to meet with prospective adoptive families. Last year, two-thirds of the animals present at Puttin’ On the Dog found loving homes. In addition, there will be a Special Needs Tent, now in its 3rd year.
Allyson Halm, the new President of Adopt-A-Dog, explains, “I’ve been involved with Puttin’ on the Dog since its inception twenty-one years ago and have the honor of chairing the event for the first time this year. It’s the largest outdoor event in Greenwich and the most fun anyone can have with dog and cat companions.”
