Take me to The River
The Westport Arts Center will present “Take Me to the River,” a riverside party with desserts, dancing and a live auction of arts experiences to benefit the Center, on Saturday, June 7, 8 p.m. The fun and event-filled evening will take place under a tent pitched on the banks of the Saugatuck River, behind the Westport Arts Center, 51 Riverside Avenue, Westport.

“We've been talking for years about putting up a tent outside our building and enjoying the beautiful river views,” said Eileen Wiseman, Westport Arts Center artistic director. “This event will be fun, breezy, relaxed, hip, artsy. Nothing fussy or too fancy, but celebratory of the season and of the Arts Center. It's also intergenerational----the music will run the gamut of styles to appeal to various audiences.”

“Take Me to the River” will feature festive desserts, designer coffees and a signature drink, catered by Garelick and Herbs. The Joe D'Elia All Star Band will play favorite music of all eras. At 10 p.m., a short, live auction will take place, after which hearty snacks will be served, while dancing continues until midnight along the river.

“Take Me to the River” committee members include Liz Reuven, Deb Murtaugh, Cathy Johnston, Frances Wilson, Laura Maged and Stacie Curran, all from Westport.

The live auction items will be a variety of experiences in music, theatre and the visual arts, with a couple of unusual experiences thrown in for fun.

Guests will have the opportunity to bid on a piano recital by world-class pianist Frederic Chiu who will come to the winner’s house and perform for 20 music-loving friends with hors d’oeuvres catered by Garelick and Herbs, along with a wine tasting; a parterre box at the Metropolitan Opera for a party of eight to attend a performance of Jules Massenet’s “Thais,” starring Renee Fleming, world-famous soprano; four tickets and backstage passes for teenagers to attend a blowout concert featuring Good Charlotte, Metro Station and Boys Like Girls; a Salsa Party hosted by Michael Stavola of Ballroom Dancesport in Westport for 20 friends to learn the sexy moves of the salsa and the mambo, margaritas provided by Greens Farms Spirit Shop; and a behind the scenes look at Christie’s Auction House for eight and a preview of the “Important American Paintings and Sculpture” exhibit.

Also, a private visit for seven with the gregarious artist Wolf Kahn in his Chelsea studio, and lunch with the artist; an outdoor movie projection system set up outside a home or club to watch a movie under the stars with family and friends from Big Wave Entertainment; a tour of New York City art galleries with photographer, curator and gallerist Cannon Hersey; tickets to Broadway shows, “Jersey Boys,” “Gypsy” starring Patti LuPone and “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” starring Laura Linney, including limo service; a walk-on role in the upcoming movie “Midnight Kiss,” to be filmed in and around Westport by Wild Bear Films who did “Girl with a Pearl Earring”; an afternoon in the kitchen with chef Matt Storch of Match Restaurant, South Norwalk, preparing and tasting the evening’s menu; and a private poker party with libations from Greens Farms Spirit Shop with coach Johny Marinaci of “The Sopranos” fame, who will come to your home with tips and advice on how to play the game.
