“These funds will continue the progress we are making to ensure that our schools are modern facilities that provide the best possible learning environments for our children,” Governor Rell said. “By building, renovating, and expanding our schools, we are investing not only in the bricks and mortar of our education system, but also in our children’s future and in the future of this state. “The State’s investments in education over the past two years have been unprecedented in Connecticut’s history,” the Governor said. “Connecticut’s future economic competitiveness depends on the workforce we are educating today.” The majority of the bond funding is authorized to provide ongoing payments for: · More than 600 ongoing local and regional school construction projects in nearly every public school district in Connecticut. For these projects, the state reimburses between 20 % and 80 % of the district’s current project expenditures; · More than 300 older school construction projects authorized prior to 1997 for which the state pays its share of the grant as a portion of the district’s long-term bond principal and interest payments; · The state’s share of the costs of 42 magnet schools currently under design or construction for which the state reimburses 95 % of the current expenditures for the respective project; · Renovations and additions to 13 of Connecticut’s technical high schools including: H.C. Wilcox, Henry Abbott, Howell Cheney, A.I. Prince, E.C. Goodwin, W.F. Kaynor, Eli Whitney, Norwich, H.H. Ellis, J.M. Wright, H.C. Wilcox, Emmett O'Brien and Hartford School for Aviation Maintenance. © Copyright by StamfordPlus.com.
