New Haven, CT - The United Illuminating Company and Southern Connecticut Gas Corporation announced a $10,000 grant to the Greater New Haven Community Loan Fund (GNHCLF) to support the loan programs that serve affordable housing developers, nonprofit organizations and small, local contractors.

GNHCLF is a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) working to create and sustain vibrant neighborhoods and communities through its lending and investment. In 24 years of lending, GNHCLF has made more than $51 million in loans for projects that have produced more than 2,300 units of housing for low/moderate income households.

The United Illuminating Company and Southern Connecticut Gas Corporation’s support will assist GNHCLF in the financing of an estimated 25 to 30 affordable housing units this year. Furthermore, their generous support will allow GNHCLF to continue providing the extensive education and technical services to borrowers that typically are not available from traditional lenders.

“We are pleased that The United Illuminating Company and Southern Connecticut Gas Corporation has recognized our efforts in serving low to moderate income people through community lending,” said GNHCLF Executive Director Carla Weil.
