“I believe that I am in the right place at the right time, “ said Flores following the award announcement. “In my two years since joining Zeus our swim ranks have grown 50 percent. It is such a great pleasure to teach and instruct swimmers who desire to improve themselves in the water and out. It is indeed their effort that awards me every time I step on deck.” “Dennis has done an incredible job in a very short time as head age group coach,” said Michael Ferraro, senior coach representative for CT Swim and who oversaw this year’s election process. “I have watched his Zeus age group program dominate the 10 years and under category. They put on an amazing showing at our age group regional and championship competitions. As this award indicates, Dennis has taken young talent and made them first into swimmers and then into champions. He has done a great job.” Flores became the Head Age Group Coach of the Zeus Swim Team of the Norwalk Aquatic Club in August 2006. In this position, he directs the program development and team coaching of all age group and younger teams. Flores has experienced much success with the young Norwalk team, producing the largest number of 10 and under qualifiers for the Connecticut Age Group Championships season after season. In March 2008, his 10 and under women’s age group team placed first overall at the Connecticut State Swimming Short Course Championships, and the combined 10 and under Women and Men teams placed third overall in an extremely competitive field of 54 Connecticut teams. The gold and bronze place medal victories were ZEUS’ first such age group category wins at State Championships. “Everyone on our Zeus team loves Dennis,” says Omar Cruz, Zeus Head Coach. “He has a spirit and enthusiasm that makes everyone try their hardest. He helps us all to aim high and work toward that goal.” Flores started swimming 14 years ago and was standout at Gorton High School in Yonkers, NY as a four-year varsity swimmer. He completed his schooling at the Westchester Business Institute before returning to his passion and took his first coaching job was at the Marmaroneck Baracudas. As assistant head coach, he helped lead the team to its first top 10 finish in league championship competition. In 2003 he joined the powerful YWCA Middies of White Plains, NY as assistant age group coach. At the Middies, Flores produced numerous Metro Junior Olympic Qualifiers and helped produce 15 young swimmers as Eastern All-Star Qualifiers. He also held the position of assistant aquatic director of the White Plains YWCA. During summers, Flores was the head coach at the Anita Louis Ehrman Country Club in Armonk, NY and led the club to a first place tie in Division 2 of the Northern Westchester Swim Conference.
