The Yerwood Center will announce later today, its plan to open a Teen Center at its main location at 90 Fairfield Avenue, Stamford CT at 4pm. The Teen Center will serve youth ages 13-18 that live in the greater Stamford community, and will offer youth development activities such as Workforce Development training, Health & Wellness programs, College Readiness initiatives, academic enrichment and recreation. The center will be open Monday through Friday 4-8PM and Saturday 9-2PM. The Yerwood Center anticipates that over three hundred (300) youth will attend the programs and community events.
During the press conference, Eugene Campbell, the Yerwood Center’s Executive Director will provide an overview of the Teen Center's programmatic schedule. Stamford Mayor Mike Pavia, along with Dirk Miller, President of FSC Foundation, Osby McMillan, Chairman, Yerwood Center Board of Directors, Yerwood Teen Advisory members, and community residents will be present in support of the Teen Center. Former New York Knick All Star, John Starks will be named a Yerwood Center Ambassador.
All Yerwood alumni, program participants and the community are invited to attend the Press Conference and learn more about the goals and objectives of the Teen Center's programs. Yerwood’s mission is to "provide youth in our diverse community with educational and personal development opportunities that will empower them to reach their potential and contribute to society”. Their vision is to become the premier youth center in which every young person, whatever their background and lifestyle, is valued and challenged to become the best they can be.
