Eastbound Café to Open on September 25
NORWALK, CT - Renovations and safety improvements at the South Norwalk Train Station began the week of September 8, 2008. The project is among initiatives planned by the Norwalk Parking Authority to improve the facility for commuters, and is expected to be completed within four months.
According to Kathryn Hebert, Administrative Services Manager for the City of Norwalk, renovations include security and energy saving upgrades in addition to several esthetic improvements. Among them are the installation of power assist doors, energy efficient lighting, upgraded smoke detectors and emergency lights, security cameras, exterior and interior masonry cleaning, repair and painting, improved signage and relocation of the existing automated pay station for better traffic flow. Funding for the project was approved in the 2008-09 capital budget. There will be minimal inconvenience to commuters.
Amid train station renovations, a new food and beverage establishment, The SoNo Station Café, is planned to open at the shuttered police substation on the eastbound side of the station, alongside the New England Fashion Design Association. The anticipated opening date is September 26 and The SoNo Station Café will operate Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. till 8:00 p.m. Café proprietor Kevin O’Brien, a former co-owner of Napeague Stretch restaurant in the Hamptons says he plans to offer simple French inspired-European fare, wine and beer, as well as “on the go” breakfast menus for morning commuters.
