Norwalk Historical Society invite the public to celebrate Independence Day

This Friday, the Norwalk Historical Society will kick off its annual Independence Day Celebration at Mill Hill Historic Park, 2 East Wall Street, across from the Historic Norwalk Town Green.

At 11:30am, Mill Hill Historic Park will be opened to the public, and the Town House, the Little Red Schoolhouse, and the Governor Fitch Law office will be open for tours, hosted by reenactors portraying Revolutionary War-era figures. The NHS will also offer two Revolutionary War Tours of the c.1750 Mill Hill Burying Ground, at 11:30am and 12:30pm.

At 1:30pm, everyone will gather on the Town Green to participate in the Let Freedom Ring! Bell Ringing Ceremony to hear a re-enactment of the first reading of the Declaration of Independence by a Revolutionary War re-enactor.

At 2:00pm, the bells of the Town House, First Congregational Church, and St. Paul's Episcopal Church will all ring simultaneously to commemorate the original 13 states.

Immediately afterward, everyone is invited to the Town House Museum across the street for an Independence Day Program featuring fascinating facts about Norwalk during the Revolutionary War, along with refreshments.

For a truly patriotic experience that brings home the real meaning of "Independence Day," please plan to join us for this moving event on July 4. The public is invited and admission is without charge, although the NHS suggests donations to help support its programs.
