Lecture attendees will have the opportunity to learn about Norwalks rich architectural heritage from local scholar and Norwalk Historical Society board member Tod Bryant, who also serves as Chair of the NHS Historic House Plaque Program. Tod Bryant is a professional photographer who creates images for annual reports, brochures, ads and web sites. He also has a passionate interest in historic preservation and is one of the founders, and current president, of the Norwalk Preservation Trust. This interest has led him to pursue a new career and he has recently earned a Master of Arts in Historic Preservation at Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland. He won the Goucher's Hiram McCullogh Award for the best thesis in historic preservation. NHS President Scott Kuykendall was enthusiastic about this new dimension of the offerings that the Society is bringing to the public: The Lecture Series aims to show the value that NHS has for the Norwalk community by adding a scholarly level of interest to its events. The Society already provides opportunities to experience history through events such as Womens History Day, Colonial Muster Day and the Fall Harvest Festival, where the public can witness through re-enactments what 18th-century life might have been like for Norwalk residents. Through the 2008 Lecture Series, NHS goal is to broaden its appeal by stimulating the intellect of those who are interested in more detailed Norwalk history. Admission to the lecture on Sunday is by suggested donation and is open to the general public. A reception will follow the lecture with refreshments. The 2008 NHS Lecture Series will continue at 2pm on each following Sunday in September in the Town House at Mill Hill. The next lecture will take place on September 14 with "The Sally:The Story of a Norwalk SloopDuring the American Revolution." The third lecture in September, on the 21st, will feature "An American Icon:Norwalks Tower Optical Company," followed by the fourth lecture on September 28th, "New England & Norwalk Burying Grounds." Each lecture will also be followed by a reception with refreshments.
