NCC presents domestic violence awareness lecture

The Fairfield County Women’s Center at Norwalk Community College will present a talk by Police Lieutenant Mark Wynn, a domestic violence prevention expert, at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 16 in the NCC PepsiCo Theater, East Campus building.

Co-sponsored by the Domestic Violence Crisis Center in Stamford, Wynn’s presentation is being held in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October. Preceding the talk, a Proclamation Against Domestic Violence will be read in the East Campus atrium. Admission is free and the public is welcome.
Mark Wynn is an internationally renowned police officer, detective and educator who is devoted to ending family violence. He is a key creator of the largest domestic violence investigative unit in the United States.

Wynn is a 20-year veteran of the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department in Tennessee. He has appeared on television on the Oprah show and in 1995 was invited to the White House by President Bill Clinton to deliver a speech on preventing domestic violence in the U.S.

Wynn also is a national trainer to police executives, patrol officers, training officers, prosecutors, judges, social service providers, healthcare providers and victim advocates. He has lectured on domestic violence prevention at police academies in Germany, England, Northern Ireland, Russia, Canada, Australia and other countries.

He is an advisor to state, national and international leaders and has guided and shaped policy on domestic violence issues.

The mission of the Fairfield County Women’s Center (FCWC) at Norwalk Community College is to promote the advancement of women through educational programs and resources and to increase awareness of women’s issues in the community, workplace and home.

The FCWC fosters a supportive environment that promotes empowerment, equality and self-actualization. It serves the women of the college and the community by providing referrals, programs and services to address their needs.
