EXPLORE NYC’S CHELSEA AND THE LOWER EAST SIDE FOR LATEST IN ART, FASHION, ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN Join our escorted walking tours of two NYC neighborhoods to see how the past is transformed by a new generation of boutiques, galleries and architecture. Chelsea is filled with more than 300 art galleries featuring talented artists from around the world. Added to the mix are sleek new residential towers, historic brownstones & sidewalk cafes. View highlights of the fall international art season on this lively gallery stroll. FINE HOME FURNISHINGS TOUR OF SOHO AND THE VICINITY With Noelle Newell, explore shops, learn about various sources and possibly find a beautiful piece of furniture for your home. You will visit some of her favorite furniture vendors such as Espasso. Espasso specializes in vintage and contemporary furniture from Brazil. You will look at boutiques specializing in modern furniture, mid-century furniture, Italian contemporary furniture, accessories, and exotic textiles from India. Please wear comfortable shoes as this is a walking tour. Secondary homes and the high end market are her specialty. She is currently working as a consultant where her services concentrate on sourcing for home furnishings from hard surfaces to fabrics and objet d’art. She is a graduate of Curry College and Fashion institute of Technology. A VISIT TO THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM – FROM SALON TO PICASSO In this one-session course, participants will visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art to look at the changes that took place in the art world from mid-19th century to the 20th. You will study how painting evolved from neo-Classicism through the Impressionism of Monet, the Post-Impressionism of Van Gogh and the early Modernism of Cezanne and finally Picasso. Viewing the actual paintings will show how this era brought truly revolutionary ideas both in process and concept. 1 Session Sun. 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Students will be notified of location to meet in New York City Fee: $40 plus additional admission fee of $8.00 payable at museum Meets 11/9/2008 Instructor: Donna Ruff, M.F.A. is an adjunct professor at NCC and at Fairfield University.
