Karl Chevrolet-Hummer has teamed up with Bobby Valentine’s Sports Academy in Stamford to bring to this weekend’s New Canaan Sidewalk Sale a baseball themed booth, complete with a dunking booth and speed gun to measure throwing speed. The event starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2009 in in downtown New Canaan.
At 12:30 p.m., New Canaan leaders will square off in a different kind of competition, as First Selectman Jeb Walker takes the “perch” in the dunking booth. While raising funds for the Chamber, he will try to survive the aim of Democratic Selectman Sally Hines, whom he will face in the fall election.
Several coaches are expected to bring entire teams out as they step into the booth to raise money for New Canaan Baseball.
Spots are still available for other nonprofit organizations and may be reserved by calling Donna Strout, Karl Chevrolet, at 966-9508.
“We are really looking forward to this event as it gives us a chance to enjoy the outdoors in an incredible setting, say hello to our friends in New Canaan and have a lot of fun with the crowd,” said Mitch Hoffman, president of the Academy. “The Karls are a great organization to work with, the Village Fair always attracts a big crowd, and the dunking booth will provide a ton of excitement on Elm Street.”
The two organizations will also offer baseball-themed giveaways and prizes — donated by the New York Mets, New York Yankees and Chevrolet — for boys and girls with “young gun” arms.
The booth, which will be set up at the corner of Elm and Park streets, will also feature the new 2010 Camaro and redesigned 2010 Equinox.
Continuing the major league theme, and also new this year, Mr. Met will visit the Citibank branch at 175 Elm Street from 11 a.m. to noon.
