The screenwriter is an award-winning multilingual journalist Marina Julia Neary who had studied Hugo’s works in depth for over a decade. She says: “We want to build on the popularity of Les Miserables and resurrect Hugo’s less familiar works that are also referenced in the screenplay. The subject should appeal to abroad audience. Even if you are not familiar with Hugo’s works, you will still find the plot intriguing, as it contains elements of political conspiracy, family secrets, envy and betrayal.” Nadine Weingarten, the director and the founder of N.S.E.W. Productions, has a decade in the film industry and has worked with legends like Dan Rather and Sally Jessy Raphael. This is her directorial debut and an opportunity to materialize a fresh mise-en-scene vision. The cast includes local theater veterans such as Ted Yudain of Curtain Call as well as fresh talent from various parts of CT and NY. The Director of Photography has worked on Oscar-winning films. Weingarten says: “We are trying to establish a cinematic community in the lower Fairfield County. This area is already known for its theatric tradition, and now is a great time to put an accent on film, as more and more feature films are being shot in Connecticut.” Other filming locations include St. John’s Episcopal Church and private estates in North Stamford and Rowayton. The release of the film is projected for mid-October 2008. © Copyright by NorwalkPlus.com.
