"Saturday’s Open House will be a great opportunity for Norwalk citizens to view the Public Works Center , learn about Public Works operations and meet the City’s Public Works staff," said Mayor Moccia. “Public Works disposes of 100,000 tons of solid waste and over 9,000 tons of recyclables annually, cares for all trees in public right of ways, manages over 4,000 parking spaces, collects and treats 14 million gallons of wastewater daily, maintains Norwalk’s central fleet and municipal buildings and is responsible for over 625 lane miles of roadway. The annual Paving Program includes about 30 streets with 5-10 high volume streets such as Stuart Avenue, which is scheduled to be completed this Fall.” added Mayor Moccia. “The Open House will also provide Norwalk residents with a chance to find out more about the Customer Service Center and to obtain information on such issues as obtaining permits, road repaving programs, where to park and how to request work,” said Public Works Committee Chairman William Krummel. “There will be exhibits of various City projects, interactive displays of the traffic systems, tours of the wastewater treatment plant and opportunities for children to have their pictures taken on heavy equipment,” stated Hal Alvord, Director of Public Works. “The City of Norwalk thanks all of the volunteers and staff and all the organizations that help make the Open House possible. This is a wonderful family event that is not only educational and informational, but a lot of fun. The kids will have a blast climbing on the trucks, getting their picture taken and blowing the horn,” stated Mayor Moccia.
