CT's "Fearfield" County conjures up a Spooktacular month of Halloween treats

From pumpkin patch hayrides to funhouse rides, Halloween houses of horror to real haunted places, walks through graveyards or corn mazes, the only trick for visitors will be choosing from among the many activities and programs taking place in southwestern Connecticut this October. A full month of Halloween-themed activities and programs geared to children and adults has been announced by the Fairfield County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

According to the Bureau’s Executive Director, Cathy Sidor, no rock, gravestone or pumpkin patch has been left unturned as the foliage filled hills of Fairfield County are transformed into Fearfield County.

A selection of Halloween treats includes:

October - Funhouse Express (daily between noon and 4:00 PM):

Climb aboard for a mildly scary laugh and thrills adventure ride, along with the “SpongeBob SquarePants 4-D” ride. [203-852-0700 or www.maritimeaquarium.org]

Oct. 21 – Harvest Spooktacular (11:00 AM -4:00 PM):

Oct. 26 - Murder At The Mansion (7:30-10 PM) - Gourmet Desserts, Wine, Champagne and Murder. Solve the murder mystery while touring through the Designer ShowHouse at the famed mansion, the Chimneys. Oct. 27 –An Afternoon & Evening in Haunted ConneCTicut (2:30-9:30 PM):

Oct. 27 - Spooky Stroll (4:30 PM) - Ghosts, witches and muggles are invited to follow a costumed guide through Fairfield’s legendary Town Green and the Old Burying Ground. Oct. 27 and 28 –Spooky Family Fun - The Total Gross-Out Lab;

Oct. 27 - Mad Science (6:30 – 7:30 PM):

Oct. 28 and 29 - Pumpkinseed Hill 22nd annual UNICEF Children’s Festival:

Oct. 30 -Vampires in Connecticut – A Chilling Lecture (7:00 PM):

CT State Archaeologist Nicholas Bellantoni brings back the dead in this talk about real vampire beliefs in New England. Learn about exhuming corpses and arranging people’s bones in strange ways among other forensic discoveries and practices. [203-259-1598 or www.fairfieldhistoricalsociety.org]

October 31 - Halloween Hoot Party (3:00 – 5:00 PM):

Ghouls, goblins and ghosts will prowl for free among the sharks, seals and sea turtles at The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk. Anyone arriving in costume between 3 & 5 p.m. will receive free general admission to the Aquarium. The “Halloween Hoot” also includes safe trick-or-treating and a costume contest with prizes in three age groups. [203-852-0700 or www.maritimeaquarium.org]
