America’s band, the Beach Boys, is coming to town, just in time to kick off America’s birthday weekend with songs like “In My Room”, “California Girls,” “Good Vibrations”, “Surfer Girl” and “Surfin’ Safari.” The Beach Boys’ sunny vocal harmonies will be presented by The Ridgefield Playhouse and Premier Concerts at The Ives Concert Park in Danbury on Thursday, July 3 at 8 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m.

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, The Beach Boys were the 60s—California of the 60s, the pursuit of happiness by carefree high-schoolers in less complicated times. (“Fun, Fun, Fun,” “I Get Around”). During the period of 1962-65, they charted 16 hit singles.

A family affair, Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson were joined by cousin Mike Love and friend, Alan Jardine in the original makeup. Brian was the group’s leader, orchestrating their harmonies and writing most of the music. The Beach Boys’ “Help Me, Rhonda” and “California Girls” are pure harmony-filled opuses. Today founding member Mike Love and Bruce Johnston do the surfin’ USA.

For tickets ($85/$45.50/$35.50 and $19.50 (lawn), go to www.ridgefieldplayhouse.org.com. Ives Concert Park (on Western Connecticut University west side campus, Mill Plain Road to University Blvd) does not allow the carrying in of alcoholic beverages or glass containers to the concert grounds. Beer and wine are available at fair and reasonable prices at the concession stands.
