The vocals of Susan Tedeschi are taking the blues genre by storm. Her album “Just Won’t Burn” became a massive grass-roots success, achieved Gold sales status and won her a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. In short—this lady can sing! Susan Tedeschi, a New England native, is returning to The Ridgefield Playhouse (after her first SRO visit) on Thursday, October 9 at 8 p.m. as part of the Doyle Coffin Architecture Singer/Songwriter Series. An AllShows VIP Party Pass ($50) is available for this show (6:30-7:30 p.m. cocktail party).
Susan Tedeschi, whose husband Derek Trucks will be at The Playhouse on October 29, is able to craft elements of classic blues, rock, R&B, folk and gospel into a distinctly individual style that honors rootsy musical traditions without being subservient to them.
“Hope and Desire” is her latest album and on it, she puts a soulful, unmistakably personal spin on a heartfelt set of songs drawn from such diverse sources as the Rolling Stones (“You Got the Silver”) and Aretha Franklin (“Share Your Love with Me”). While Ms. Tedeschi writes many of her own songs, on this release she wanted to make “a great soul record, and these songs all have soul, in one way or another,” she explains.
