Seussical will play in Curtain Call’s air-conditioned Kweskin Theatre August 6 – 17. Evening performances are at 7:30 PM. Matinees at 2:00 PM on August 10, 16 & 17. Dr. Seuss' most colorful characters come tumbling right out of the books and up onto the stage in this joyful gumbo of musical styles, ranging from Latin to pop, swing to gospel, and R&B to funk! Let your toes tap, your fingers snap, and your imagination run wild! This production features Fairfield County’s most talented young performers (age 10 – 21) in a full-scale production guaranteed to delight your children, and make adults feel like a kid all over again. These classic, colorful tales are seamlessly brought together by Jojo, a young boy and “thinker of strange and wonderful thinks”! As each story unfolds you will marvel at how relevant and profound Seuss’s subtle themes are; making this musical one that appeals to all ages. “Seussical projects the humor, heart and high spirits of Dr. Seuss' beloved books” said Lou Ursone Curtain Call executive director and executive producer for the show. “When I first heard about this musical coming to Broadway, I was thrilled,” Ursone said, noting that his love of the Seuss books combined with the fact that former Monty Python member Eric Idle was part of the creative team, made it irresistible. The book is written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty with Idle credited as a “Co-Conceiver”. Music is by Flaherty with Lyrics by Ahrens. “For over 40 years, summer youth theatre has been a part of Stamford’s rich cultural landscape and we here at Curtain Call are thrilled to continue this great tradition,” Ursone said. The young performers, 57 in all, were chosen from 120 that auditioned in early June. “The students selected for this year’s production were outstanding and had some very stiff competition. Many of those who auditioned but were not cast are working in critical roles backstage,” he added. Directing this group of dedicated young performers is Nina Mansfield of Greenwich. Rounding out the production team are Michael Andrew Cooney, Music Director, of Fairfield; Kari Sweeney, Choreographer, of Greenwich; Peter Barbieri,Jr., Set Design, of Ossining, NY and Claudia Nerreau, Costume Design, of South Salem, NY.

The works of Dr. Seuss, the pseudonym of Theodore Seuss Geisel, have delighted children and adults alike since they first appeared in 1937 with And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street. The distinctive rhythms of the works along with the illustrations encouraged reading – a particular intent of Seuss. Seuss’s stories taught tolerance, peace, and the value of dignity to generations of kids - “a person’s a person, no matter how small.” In all Geisel wrote and illustrated 44 children’s books, which had been translated into more than 15 languages with over 200 million copies sold. His works have provided the source for eleven children’s television specials and several feature-length motion pictures. His honors included two Academy awards, two Emmy awards, a Peabody award and the Pulitzer Prize. Geisel died in September 1991. Last year's youth musical, Peter Pan, sold out in record time, so making advance reservations is suggested.
