The Marsalis family is well known not only in the Jazz world, but throughout the entire music world as great musicians, composers and bandleaders. Saxophonist Branford Marsalis—with his Quartet (Joey Calderazzo, Eric Revis and Jeff “Tain” Watts)—is coming to The Ridgefield Playhouse on Sunday, May 3 at 8 p.m., just after the release of their latest album, “Metamorphosen,” which includes original compositions by all four members in a variety of moods. This evening of innovative music is part of the Danbury Audi Jazz Series.

Branford Marsalis was born into one of New Orleans most distinguished musical families—patriarch/pianist Ellis and brothers Wynton, Delfeayo and Jason. Branford gained initial acclaim through his work with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and his brother Wynton’s quintet in the early 1980s before forming his own ensemble. A three-time Grammy winner, Branford has continued to exercise and expand his skills as an instrumentalist, often appearing with others (Herbie Hancock, as well as the Philarmonia Brasileira). His previous album, “Braggtown,” was acknowledged as one of Quartet’s best.

For tickets ($80) and further information about The Ridgefield Playhouse, call the box office at 203-438-5795; tickets may be also purchased online at www.ridgefieldplayhouse.org. The Playhouse is located at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main Street.
