Playhouse on the Green, a 54-year-old not-for-profit theater company in residence at a beautiful 228-seat jewel-box theater in the heart of downtown Bridgeport, announces its eclectic 2008-2009 season of plays and musicals: The Underpants by Steve Martin, adapted from the 1910 German play by Carl Sternheim; The Rocky Horror Show by Richard O'Brien; a holiday double-bill of the one-act comedies The Santaland Diaries and Season's Greetings by David Sedaris; Twelve Angry Jurors by Reginald Rose (the seldom-produced adaptation of the classic "jury room drama" Twelve Angry Men that includes both male and female characters); the Connecticut Premiere of Dedication or The Stuff of Dreams by Terrence McNally; and The Wiz by Charlie Smalls and Connecticut resident William F. Brown. This diverse lineup fulfills Playhouse on the Green's mission to produce quality live entertainment for Bridgeport audiences and to provide Connecticut theater artists with opportunities to work on great material.

Of the 08-09 season slate, Producing Artistic Director Matt Schicker says: "From comedies to dramas, from popular favorites to adventurous lesser-known works that will be new to most of our audience, there's something for everyone on the Playhouse stage this season."

In famous funnyman's Steve Martin's wild comedy The Underpants, a couple's conservative existence is shattered when bloomers fall down in public. The Underpants runs for 8 performances from September 26-October 5, 2008.

Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show has become a rock 'n' roll musical phenomenon around the world, and it will take Bridgeport by storm! Whether you grew up doing "The Time Warp" or you've never experienced this classic kitschy sci-fi, Rocky Horror is perfect Halloween-time fun, and special midnight performances are planned. The Rocky Horror Show rocks the Playhouse for 10 performances from October 24-November 8, 2008.

Best-selling author and NPR humorist David Sedaris has given us the perfect antidote to the sugary sweetness and commercialism of the holiday season: his two irreverent one-act plays The Santaland Diaries and Season's Greetings. This hilarious double-bill runs for 9 performances December 5-21, 2008.

Playhouse on the Green is pleased to present a rare version of the well-known classic Twelve Angry Men: this version of the famous "jury room drama," entitled Twelve Angry Jurors, features a mixed cast of men and women. Twelve Angry Jurors runs February 7-22, 2009.

Playhouse on the Green is honored to give the Connecticut Premiere of Terrence McNally's play Dedication or The Stuff of Dreams. The beautiful Playhouse space is the perfect setting for this funny and poignant story of a couple forced to examine how far their love of theater will take them. Dedication or The Stuff of Dreams runs March 13-29, 2009.

The grand finale of the mainstage season is The Wiz, the ground-breaking musical version of L. Frank Baum's beloved American tale, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, by Charlie Smalls and William F. Brown. "Ease on down the road" to the wonderful r&b and gospel rhythms of The Wiz, April 24-May 10, 2009.

Performance times vary. Visit www.playhouseonthegreen.org for a complete performance schedule.
