A winner of four Grammy Awards (the most recent being Best Country Album in 1996, "The Road to Ensenada"), Lyle Lovett needs little introduction. His eclectic musical style encompasses multiple genres from traditional country, folk and swing to blues, jazz and gospel. In a return visit to the area (after a sold out performance at The Playhouse this past February), The Ridgefield Playhouse and Premier Concerts are presenting Lyle Lovett at The Ives Concert Park in Danbury on Tuesday, July 1 at 8 p.m. The gates open at 6 p.m.
Lovett's other Grammy Awards were in 1994, Best Pop Vocal Collaboration (with Al Green for "Funny How Time Slips Away") and Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal (with Asleep At The Wheel for "Blues for Dixie") and in 1989 for Best Country Vocal Performance ("Lyle Lovett and His Large Band")
Just two years ago, in announcing the Esky For Surest Thing Awards, Esquire magazine said of Lovett, "The secret of Lyle Lovett's endurance comes down to the three C's: class, charisma and consistency . . . In the studio and on stage with his giant orchestra, he's spent two decades gracefully matching genuine songcraft with A-list musicianship."
For tickets ($79.50/$54.50/$44.50 and $24.50 (lawn) go to www.ridgefieldplayhouse.org.com. Ives Concert Park (on Western Connecticut University west side campus, Mill Plain Road to University Blvd) does not allow the carrying in of alcoholic beverages or glass containers to the concert grounds.
