Aug 7, 2008 - 12:12:57 AM

For a quintessentially country experience, complete with crisp, early fall air and the sounds of country music in a classic rural setting, look no further than Hunt Hill Farm in New Milford on September 20. World-renowned country singer and Broadway performer Larry Gatlin will take the stage during an intimate concert for 600.

Union Savings Bank, which is supporting numerous arts events throughout Greater Danbury this summer, is the event’s title sponsor. In addition, Country 92.5 will award eight pairs of ticket during on-air giveaways and through its Web site. Listeners can also win Larry Gatlin’s latest albums, including “The Best of the Gatlins: All the Gold in California” and “Larry Gatlin & Gatlin Brothers Sing Their Family Gospel Favorites.”

All proceeds from the concert will benefit the Henderson Cultural Center at Hunt Hill Farm, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Under the banner of The Henderson Cultural Center, the Trust offers a variety of programs and family events that enrich the community, including gallery openings, cooking classes, live music, creative workshops and more.

“We are very excited to have the opportunity to sponsor Hunt Hill Farm Trust’s biggest event to date,” said John Kline, president and CEO of Union Savings Bank. “Union Savings Bank is a major supporter of the arts, and Hunt Hill Farm is a vital part of western Connecticut’s arts and cultural scene, as well as a historic treasure. This concert will allow Hunt Hill Farm Trust to continue inspiring visitors with unique and creative programming.”

Gatlin will perform from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in the field next to the 1836 barn under a tent – rain or shine!

Since releasing his first album in 1973, Gatlin has enjoyed a music career that has taken him from singing in his hometown of Abilene, Texas to White House performances, Broadway and the top of the country music charts. The Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter responsible for such hits as “Broken Lady,” “I Just Wish You Were Someone I Love” and “She Used to be Somebody’s Baby” went on to sing the lead in the Tony Award-winning “The Will Rogers Follies.” Most recently, Gatlin starred in “Civil War” and published his autobiography, All the Gold in California. He continues to sing and speak at events across the country.

“Larry Gatlin’s successful and diverse career mirrors that of Hunt Hill Farm Trust founders Skitch and Ruth Henderson,” said Susan York, executive director of Hunt Hill Farm Trust. “As the founder of the New York Pops and NBC’s former music director, Skitch had a passion for music in all its forms. His wife Ruth, a writer, chef and entrepreneur, continues to embrace and nurture creativity at Hunt Hill Farm today.

“We are so happy that we have been able to work with Union Savings Bank, Country 92.5 and the Northwest Connecticut Convention and Visitors Bureau to host a world-renowned performer and continue to carry on Hunt Hill Farm Trust’s strong artistic legacy.”

Guided tours of Hunt Hill Farm and the Skitch Henderson Museum, which is dedicated to the fascinating collections of the maestro, will follow the concert from 4 to 5 p.m. Visitors may also see the Connecticut Plein Air Painters’ latest exhibit in the art gallery.

Concert tickets range in price from $10 (student or child) to $125 for gold seating (reserved seats and on-site parking). Please visit hunthillfarmtrust.org or call (860) 355-0300 for more information or to purchase tickets.
