Julia Sweeney
'Letting Go of God' is refreshingly unrancorous, lucid and, yes, inspirational. A Searing and bracingly funny solo show." So said the New York Times of Julia (aka Pat on Saturday Night Live) Sweeney's hit one-woman show, which is coming to The Ridgefield Playhouse for Movies and the Performing Arts at 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 1. This evening of unbridled comedy is part of the Benziger Family Winery Theater Series and the Bruce Bennett Nissan Comedy Series. Y105 is the media sponsor. Due to the nature of topics discussed, this show may not be appropriate for children under 13.

Letting Go of God" is Julia Sweeney's most ambitious monologue to date, work shopping the show for four years at various comedy clubs around Los Angeles. The hilarious show chronicles her journey from believing in God to letting go of the whole idea of God and then her many struggles to find Him along the way. She rejoined the Catholic Church (the faith in which she was happily raised), she studied Buddhism, she trekked to monasteries in the Himalayas and she embraced the New Age ideas of Deepak Chopra and finally discovered science and the scientific method. Something she didn't even realize she had missed! A long and winding road with lots of laughs along the way.
