70s super group America is coming to The Ridgefield Playhouse

The world discovered America in 1972 when a nameless horse began its gallop across the international airwaves. America-Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley-that Anglo-American Band with such hits as "A Horse With No Name," "Ventura Highway" and "Sister Golden Hair" is coming to The Ridgefield Playhouse of Movies and the Performing Arts on Thursday, June 12 at 8 p.m.

Starting out with borrowed acoustic guitars, Gary Beckley, Dewey
Bunnell and Dan Peck hooked up and began making music in the 70s. Though they started out playing gigs in the London area, they adopted the name America, and on their debut album, simply titled, "America," they hit it big with "A Horse With No Name." Flush with their success, the group moved to Los Angeles, and released their second album, "Homecoming." This, too, proved providential, as they struck gold again with the song, "Ventura Highway," best remembered for a unique acoustic guitar riff added late in the recording process by Gerry Beckley. A reward for their efforts was the 1972 Grammy Award for Best new Artist. All told, America has garnered 11 Top 40 singles and 17 gold, platinum and multi-platinum albums.

America is now two-Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell-and they are returning to Ridgefield after an explosive performance 2 years ago to a SRO audience. Their latest album is "Here & Now."
