Lisa Topham, R.N, P.C., a specialist in skin rejuvenation for 20-years, announces that Sculptra Aesthetic has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for cosmetic use to produce a fuller, more youthful appearance.
As a facelift tightens the skin, Sculptra®Aesthetic adds volume non-surgically. As a treatment indicated for the correction of shallow to deep nasolabial folds (smile lines), contour deficiencies and other facial wrinkles, clinical studies have proven results to last more than two-years without a return to baseline.
Wrinkles and folds associated with aging become apparent primarily through the breakdown of collagen. SculptraAesthetic works over several months to help the body replace lost collagen.
“Peels, Botox, Restylane, Juvederm and collagen injections—although great at reducing lines and wrinkles, do nothing to restore volume to sagging skin,” said Topham who was licensed as the first collagen injector in the state and has been using Sculptra off-label for five years. “While Sculptra does not produce the instant gratification achieved with Radiesse, it makes up for it with long term and permanently beneficial improvements in collagen replacement.”
Made from poly-L-lactic acid, which has been safely used for the past 25 years in resorbable stitches, Sculptra®Aesthetic is biocompatible (does not harm the body) and biodegradable (able to be broken down by the body). This bio-friendly injectable has also been widely used in Europe for almost a decade for cosmetic treatment.
“I am very excited to offer SculptraAesthetic to patients who want to achieve natural-looking results from a cosmetic injectable that is long-lasting,” said Topham. “SculptraAesthetic works gradually to achieve results over time, so no one will notice you’ve had work done.”
A treatment regimen of SculptraAesthetic is performed, on average, at three injection sessions over a few months to provide noticeable, long lasting results.
In a pivotal trial with SculptraAesthetic, swelling and tenderness were the most common adverse events reported (81%). Results from a recent study conducted for the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and sanofi-aventis U.S. showed that both injectable users and women considering a medical anti-aging treatment preferred gradual results that last two years (75%) as opposed to immediate results that last one year (25%).
In addition to injectables, Topham’s practice also offers a variety of peels, laser treatments including Lumenis Light Sheer Hair Removal, IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) for treatment of age spots and rosacea, and ND-Yag to treat veins on legs and face.
