The Connecticut Pastel Society is celebrating a quarter of a century of glorious pastel exhibitions. The opening reception will begin with a gallery tour from 1:00pm - 2:00pm by award winning artist Karen Israel. Following the gallery tour will be the artists reception from 2:00pm - 4:00pm, with the awards presentation at 3:00pm. The reception and gallery tour are free, and all are welcome!

The exhibition will be a dazzling display of ninety-three pastel paintings from talented artists, both national and international. The pastel medium dates back centuries, with artists such as Mary Cassat and William Merritt Chase favoring pastels. Most notably are the exquisite ballerina paintings of Edgar Degas. With the renewed interest in pastel, the number of pastel societies has been growing by leaps and bounds. The International Association of Pastel Societies (fondly known within the pastel community as IAPS) boasts over sixty member societies from the United States. The member societies outside the United States include countries such as Spain, China, Taiwan, New Zealand, France, Australia and Pakistan. It’s no wonder that artists affection for the pastel medium is flourishing. With pastel’s bright colors, luxurious softness, variety of techniques, availability of a multitude of pastel products, and the camaraderie among pastel artists who belong to member societies, pastel is truly a perfect medium. This Exhibition is a shining example of the pastel medium at its very best!
